Classes

Diabetes Education Classes
The initial class provides a basic explanation of diabetes and covers the American Diabetes Association (ADA) diet principles. It is for adult patients diagnosed with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes or glucose intolerance. It is also recommended that each patient attend the meal planning class after the initial diabetes class. An individualized meal plan is provided based on the exchange system.

Weight Reduction Classes
This class provides education on general weight-loss principles with an emphasis on eating healthier, lowering fat intake, and modifying eating habits. A separate class is provided for active duty soldiers who are trying to lose weight. Tips on eating healthy in the field and exercise/fitness routines are discussed. A meal planning class is also available after attending the weight reduction class. The meal planning class provides an individualized meal plan for weight loss based upon age, weight, height, and activity level.

Healthy Heart Class
This class provides nutrition information based on the American Heart Association recommendations and The American Dietetic Association. It includes a discussion on methods to reduce dietary cholesterol and saturated fat and the latest research on specific vitamins and functional foods. Lab values and risk factors for heart disease are also discussed.

Sports Nutrition Class
This class provides information on basic nutrition, exercise, and dietary supplements (possible effects on health and wellness).

Commissary Tour
The focus of the tour is on reducing the risk for various diseases through a low cholesterol, low saturated fat, and high fiber diet. It is designed to help the patient get a better understanding of the right foods to choose to help them stay healthy.

Primary Care Provider referrals are required prior to scheduling an appointment.

Four 1-hour classes each month

    Approaches to quitting. Choosing a replacement therapy.
  • CLASS TWO: "Stress Management".
    Coping with withdrawal symptoms. Getting ready to quit.
  • CLASS THREE: "Mastering obstacles".
    Weight management. Review of relaxation techniques. QUIT DATE.
  • CLASS FOUR: "Enjoying it Forever".
    Long term benefits. Avoiding a return to tobacco use. Strategies for regression
